Building a Star Wars Scrubber Droid - Part Four
Просмотров 7394 года назад
This is the Forth Video in my series Building a Star Wars Scrubber Droid. This one takes us to a point where the Scrubber Droid is aesthetically complete but I stop short of putting my Drive System in place. I will be getting this thing moving soon, but I have other projects to get to in the mean time. Here are some links for the Bucketheads and Transmute Pictures stuff referenced in the video;...

    Great job! Love it. I just saw a couple of these at R2LA droid meet up. For the aluminum panels, you could have used a Silhouette Vinyl Machine and cut them using the thick silver reflective vinyl sheets, as they look just like aluminum. You have great skills at air brushing.

    When people say "greblies", does that mean strictly pieces for ornamentation? I hear that term used a lot for building Star Wars builds.

    • @myAstromech
      @myAstromech Год назад

      SuperMasterTurtle, YES! Mostly! ;) Greeblies, Greebles, Nernies... these are all pieces of detail that are used usually to break up a surface and/or create scale. They are often found objects that have some unrelated function, and before we were printing bespoke Greeblies they were literally Kit Bashed or stolen from commercial model kits.

    I'm planning on using this type of bearing to build a giant wall hourglass. In your video when you drill through the aluminum, is it because this bearing can only be screwed to one surface and you needed to screw it both ways (like a normal steel lazy susan)? when I was a home (hopeful) prop maker, my "mistakes" became battle damage. I dropped one of my Mando buckets and it cracked (vertically) so I "glassed" it from behind and only slightly filled the crack and made a couple matching marks with a Dremel and filled them with copper to make it look like large claw marks. Looks cool if I do say so myself. Seeing how 3d printers are now affordable, I may get back into making a few Star Wars props. Starting with an Astromech, then FINALLY a Vader helmet and hard parts. @adonian, Yes! Nice story about embracing the defects! Armor is fantastic in the way that it allows you so much freedom that way. If you do decide to go the 3DPrinted rout with an Astromech, find me in the R2 Builders Group, I'm involved with a project there releasing Astromech Models to members based on club designs and free of charge.

    I would be interested in seeing more work on the R6 particularly the drive train.

    Hi Aaron, Nice to hear from you. Have you covered in a video what motors you are using in the feet of you astromech?

      Mike, I have not yet mentioned it. I'm actually working one the drives today! I'm working with a set of Planetary Gear Motors I had on hand from Andy-Mack. They are not the most economical solution though.

    Awesome. I have a bearing I'm not happy with, and plenty of time on my hands.

      This is probably the perfect 2020 project! I didn't spend a ton of time on mine but I'm pretty happy with the results.
